Penning thoughts! Kriti Sanon takes up a new habit this New Year

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 04:25:38 GMT - bollywood-news

Kriti Sanon has never been a new year resolution person, but in 2021 there is one habit she would like to imbibe. She has bought two diaries to express her state of mind. The actor wonders why vulnerability, sadness, fear, anger, frustration and insecurity is considered a sign of weakness.

"As kids, we cry, scream, laugh, speak without thinking...we keep it simple. But as we grow up, we learn to behave and mask. We feel something, we say something else," wrote Sanon who is keen to "declutter, uncomplicate" and write down her thoughts. It's akin to meditation for her.

Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's Ranthambore trip just a coincidence?

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 04:10:53 GMT - bollywood-news

As snapshots of Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh from their Ranthambore trip do the rounds, there's talk about the couples choosing the same location to ring in 2021. It is said that they had done the bookings, unaware of the others' presence.

They prefer to term it a coincidence, but a rather strange one, considering they were travelling with their families. Yet, no one had a clue about the destination till they got there.

Rumours were also rife that Alia and Ranbir will finally be making their relationship official on the trip. Those rumours, however, were unfounded.

Kareena and Karisma's dad, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, in an interview said, "It is not true. If Ranbir and Alia were to get engaged today, my family and I would have also been there with them. Ranbir, Alia and Neetu have gone there for holidays and to bring in the new year. The news of their engagement is incorrect."

Mohnish Bahl: I thought I was finished after six flops and decided to become a pilot

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 03:55:00 GMT - bollywood-news

Mohnish Bahl's claim to fame was Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya in 1989, and multiple collaborations with the filmmaker followed with blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Vivah.

But in an interview with The Times of India, the actor spoke about how he thought his career was over and he decided to become a pilot. He also spoke about how Salman Khan asked him to audition for Maine Pyar Kiya and how he found success again. He said, "By the time I got 'Maine Pyar Kiya', not only had I started my career, but also ended it. I thought I was finished after six flops and decided to become a pilot."

He added, "I was working on getting a commercial flying license as I wanted to get a job in the aviation sector. Salman Khan and I bumped into each other quite randomly but became friends almost immediately. He was trying to get into the business of filmmaking back then. When 'MPK' came his way, he recommended my name for the villain's role."

He also talked about how it was tricky since he was a 'flop hero'. Bahl stated, "He asked me if I'd be interested in doing the role, and I agreed. It was tricky for me to do a villain's role back then as I was a flop hero. But any inclination that I had to play a hero was over by then. So I took it on but had never expected that it would be a new lease of life for my career and make me viable even 30 years later. I don't think even Salman had thought about it."

Talking about auditioning for the role, the actor revealed, "Yes, when I agreed to do the role, Salman said, 'Jaake audition kar le'. I was down and out in those days as six films featuring me as a hero had flopped; I'd had no work for two-and-half years. Besides, I was 24 and insecure as I didn't know where I was headed in life."

He added, "But after the test, Raj Babuji came up to me and said, 'We'd like to cast you in this role, but aap Nutanji ke bete hain aur hum unko kya bolenge about casting you in a villain's role?' I assured them that I had her blessings, but he was still apprehensive. I went back and told my mother that I should be getting films because of her and not losing them!"

The actor was also asked about becoming the blue-eyed boy of the Barjatyas and this is how he reacted, "Over the years I have become Rajshri's old man also, which is wonderful because we all have to go that way. It's nice that all of us have been able to age and still have that camaraderie and sense of belonging. They are wonderful people!"

Salman Khan urged to release 'Radhe' only in theaters on Eid by exhibitors

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 01:45:00 GMT - bollywood-news

Amid unconfirmed reports that Salman Khan has sold the satellite, theatrical, digital and music rights of his upcoming Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai for a whopping sum of Rs 230 crore to Zee Studios, cinema hall owners associations have written to the superstar requesting him to release the film only in theatres on Eid 2021.

Shared by the exhibitors on Saturday, the letter urged Salman to help the cinema hall sector during its time of struggle amid the ongoing Covid pandemic.

The letter is signed by exhibitors associations from different parts of the country including Uttarakhand, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan Bihar, Telangana, Delhi, Dehradun and Hyderabad.

Exhibitors believe that the film will be a mass entertainer like most of Salman's Eid releases. The film can be expected to pull the audience into theatres, especially during a festival like Eid, and aid the struggling exhibition industry that has suffered huge losses during the ongoing pandemic.

The letter reads: "Dear Mr Salman Khan, Hope this letter finds you well. As you are aware, 2020 has been a rough year for millions of people across the country and the ones associated with India's film exhibition sector haven't been an exception. Over the last 10 months, hundreds of single screen/independent cinemas have pulled down their shutters permanently and this has resulted in the loss of livelihood for lakhs of people who were employed by them directly and indirectly."

"Films are to theatres what fuel is to a car. Without a constant supply of content that is relevant to its audience, running a cinema hall is close to impossible. For over a decade now, your films have played an important role in bringing audiences to single screen cinemas, which are otherwise starved for content that caters to the sensibilities of people who patronise them.

"Your film Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai is among the few that are capable of resurrecting the fortunes of independent/single screen cinemas across the country. A film like that, if released widely, can give not just financial support and relief but also a ray of hope to owners and employees of theatres in the context of their future. We request you to plan the film's release at every cinema in the country on Eid 2021 as there cannot be a better Eidi than that for us film exhibitors and more importantly for millions of your fans whom we cannot wait to welcome back at the theatres.

"Till date not even a single case of people contracting Covid-19 has been traced back to a cinema hall anywhere in the world and we are confident of keeping your fans safe by following comprehensive protocols and guidelines that have been issued by the concerned authorities.

"May 2021 bring lots of happiness, love and prosperity to you and your family. In anticipation of your support and on behalf of lakhs of Indians who make a living by working at and for cinema halls," the letter concluded.

Punjabi stint for Janhvi Kapoor

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 01:37:50 GMT - bollywood-news

Following the play, it's now all work for Janhvi Kapoor. The actor, who rang in the New Year at Manish Malhotra's star-studded bash, will commence work on the Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film, Kolamaavu Kokila (2018), directed by Siddharth Sengupta.

A source from the unit says, "Janhvi will fly to Punjab for the film which will be shot over 45 days in a [bio] bubble. They roll on January 9, and plan to shoot across various regions. Even though in each location, a different set of restrictions are imposed, strict safety protocol will be maintained."

Kapoor's version will not be a frame-by-frame adaptation of the original, which was frontlined by Nayanthara, but will be amended to suit the tastes of cinephiles across India, says the source. As a North Indian girl, Kapoor will be seen sporting minimal makeup. "Playing the part of a girl from a simple, middle-class family, she will be seen in braids and salwar-kurtas. It is also a coming-of-age movie of a girl who gets trapped in an extraordinary situation, and how she saves her family. In the process, she emerges resilient. There are a few action sequences for which Janhvi has been prepping."

Tahir Bhasin: Progression has come hard earned

Posted on 3 Jan 2021 01:32:31 GMT - bollywood-news

The months between March and September felt never-ending," says Tahir Raj Bhasin as we catch-up for a chat. For the last few weeks, the actor has been shooting Looop Lapeta at Madh Island, post which the crew will move to Goa later this month. He says he utilised the lockdown time for self-reflection. "I took the time to pause and appreciate how far life has come. To merely step out of those Zoom windows and be on a set full of human contact is invigorating."

The year 2019 saw Bhasin shine in Nitesh Tiwari's Chhichhore, a film that created wonders at the box office and earned rave reviews. He would've kicked off 2020 with Kabir Khan's 83 if the pandemic had not played spoilsport. However, he now owns the leading man's space in the Taapsee Pannu-starrer—Looop Lapeta—a remake of German hit film Run Lola Run. "I started 2020 brimming with hope. The silver lining is that March feels pushed to October. As an actor, I play every part with a single-minded focus. My design to work doesn't change when I am playing a hero [or otherwise]. For me, when Derek [character he played in Chhichhore] walked in, he was the leader of the pack. Outside of the craft, as trajectory, I see this as the progression that's come hard earned. I feel stimulated and consciously abstain from doing similar parts. Producers are noticing that [my character in ] Manto is nothing like Chhichhore, which is starkly different from Mardaani."

Tahir Raj Bhasin
Tahir Raj Bhasin

Consciously aware of the responsibility that lies on him and working in that direction every day, Bhasin says the opportunity feels like a dream come true. "Taapsee and I are working on creating chemistry. The film is a remake of a German cult movie, so we need to take extra efforts to make the film palatable to the Indian audience who may or may not have seen it. I had seen the film when I was in college and never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that I will play a lead in its remake."

Coming up next, Bhasin has a Mahesh Bhatt series that marks the veteran director's digital debut. "The studio is looking [to release the series] by the first quarter of 2021."

Jacqueline Fernandez all set to have a tight schedule in 2021

Posted on 2 Jan 2021 10:53:36 GMT - bollywood-news

New year is here with lots of new hopes and surprises but for our Bollywood’s Ms. Sunshine Jacqueline Fernandez, it has brought with it more work and shoots. Not only is the actress not complaining but is all the more happy to be shooting non-stop as her very first month of 2021 looks jam packed.

With the start of the year, the talented actress starts the shoot for Cirkus followed by Bhoot Police, two of her many films lined up currently. A source close to Jacqueline revealed her busy schedule for this January saying, "With the start of the year Jacqueline directly jumps into shoot for Cirkus till around the mid of January and then she will immediately go on to the sets of Bhoot Police, so she really doesn't even have a day of break in the entire month."

Ever since the lockdown had lifted slightly, the hard working actress had been constantly working without any breaks so much so that she celebrated the big occasions from Diwali to Christmas, everything on sets shooting and now the new year seems to bring in more of such schedules for the hardworking star.

Jacqueline has 4 big-ticket films in her kitty to shoot for keeping her busy as a bee since the lockdown relaxed even a little. For some of these she will be reuniting with her old co-stars like Saif Ali Khan for Bhoot Police, Akshay Kumar for Bachchan Pandey and Salman Khan for Kick 2, while we will also get to see her in a new pairing opposite Ranveer Singh for Cirkus.
