Mohanlal's Drishyam 2 heads to OTT platform

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has unveiled the teaser of Drishyam 2, which will premiere digitally, later this year.

The teaser shows Mohanal's character Georgekutty telling a cop that he believes the new police station will protect his family. He is referring to his secret that he hopes will remain buried under the floors of the police station forever. But it seems like it will be a difficult task to do.

"Drishyam (2013) was one-of-a-kind thriller, way ahead of its time, that was loved by all. With Drishyam 2, we are taking the story of Georgekutty and his family ahead from where we left off," said Mohanlal.

"We know viewers have waited patiently for the sequel. It is a labour of love, we hope to rise to the expectations of our die-hard fans. So, sit back and enjoy from the safety of your homes with your family and loved ones," he added. Written and directed by Jeetu Joseph, Drishyam 2 also stars Meena, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Ansiba, Esther, and Saikumar.

It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video. While some fans are eagerly waiting for Georgekutty and his family, others were not too happy about the film releasing digitally. "OTT release. Disappointed," one fan tweeted. Another wrote, "Disappointing… Should have waited for theatres. Insisting on a theatre screening, one fan wrote, "Shocking… wanna watch in theatres."

Drishyam 2 Teaser: Mohanlal is back in the sequel that's all set to dig deeper

Amazon Prime Video today announced the global premiere of the highly anticipated Malayalam-thriller Drishyam 2 exclusively on the streaming service. Starting the New Year with a bang, Drishyam 2, starring Mohanlal will record its world-premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2021.

Keeping excitement amongst fans at its peak ahead of its much-awaited release, legendary actor Mohanlal and Amazon Prime Video dropped the teaser of the film on January 1, 2020, a little after midnight. Written and directed by Jeetu Joseph, Drishyam 2 stars Meena, Siddique, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopy, Ansiba, Esther, and Saikumar in pivotal roles. Drishyam 2 has been produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.

The upcoming Amazon Original movie, which will begin from where Drishyam left off, promises to raise the stakes with double the thrills. Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu's daughter Sitara on Wednesday shared her experience of getting tested for COVID for the first time.

Along with an Instagram video post of the test, eight-year-old Sitara posted: "My first time covid test! Little information for all the kids my age.. I was very hesitant before doing the test but I had my Amma next to me.. holding my hand! If you're meeting friends and family always remember to get tested and make sure you're safe.. I do that… And to tell you the truth... it isn't so bad, hard or painful. So let's get tested and form a safer society…. Have a safe and happy new year! Rajinikanth: I regret to inform that I am not going to launch a political party

Superstar Rajinikanth on Tuesday announced he will not take the political plunge and start a party as announced earlier, citing his frail health. "Without entering electoral politics, will serve the people. This decision of mine will disappoint my fans and people but please forgive me," he said in a statement today.

Discharged from a Hyderabad hospital on Sunday after being treated for blood pressure fluctuations, the top actor expressed fears over those accompanying him in his possible political journey facing "mental and economic" problems in the due course. He indicated he did not want to sound chivalrous by saying he will join politics despite his severe health concerns and that he did not want to "make a victim" of his supporters now.

"Therefore, I inform with great regret I am unable to come to politics by floating a political party. Only I know the pain behind making this announcement," the 70-year-old actor said in a statement, months after he said he will float his own outfit in January and face the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.

He, however, said he will serve people in whatever ways he can without entering electoral politics.

Ram Charan tests positive for COVID-19

Telugu film star Ram Charan on Tuesday said he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is under home quarantine. The 35-year-old actor shared a health update on his Twitter account. "I have tested positive for COVID-19. No symptoms and quarantined at home. Hope to heal soon and come out stronger," Charan said in a statement.

He urged all the people, who have been around him in the past couple of days, to get tested. "More updates on my recovery soon," he added.

On the work front, Charan will be seen in writer-director S S Rajamouli''s next film "Rise Roar Revolt" ("RRR"). The "Baahubali" fame director resumed shooting on his most talked about Telugu movie in Hyderabad in October with necessary safety precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic, nearly seven months after the filming was halted.

The period action drama narrates a fictional tale based on the lives of two freedom fighters in the early 20th century -- Alluri Sitarama Raju and Kumram Bheem, played by Ram Charan and N T Rama Rao Jr. Produced by DVV Entertainments, "RRR" also stars Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn in a pivotal role and marks debut of Alia Bhatt in South cinema.

The film was earlier slated to hit cinema halls on January 8, 2021 but has been deferred to a later date due to COVID-19. Charan will also be seen playing a supporting role in Telugu action drama film "Acharya", directed by Koratala Siva.

Produced by Charan and Niranjan Reddy under the Konidela Production Company and Matinee Entertainments banners, the film stars Chiranjeevi and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles.

Rajinikanth discharged from Hyderabad hospital, advised rest

Superstar Rajinikanth was Sunday discharged from Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, where he was admitted on Friday with severe fluctuations in blood pressure. The hospital said the actor was discharged after an improvement in his medical condition. The actor later left for Chennai.

It said in a statement that he was admitted with severe hypertension and exhaustion. "He was kept under close medical supervision and treated by a team of doctors. His blood pressure has been stabilised and he is feeling much better. In view of his improved medical condition, he is being discharged from the hospital today," it said.

In view of his post-transplant status, labile hypertension and age, the doctors have advised him complete bed rest for one week with regular monitoring of blood pressure. He was also advised to undertake minimal physical activity and to avoid stress.

He has also been counselled to avoid any activity that increases the risk of contracting Covid-19, the hospital added.

Earlier, the hospital in the medical bulletin released Sunday morning revealed that there was nothing alarming in the test reports of Rajinikanth.

The actor was shooting for Tamil film "Annaatthe" in Hyderabad for the last 10 days.

A couple of people on the film sets had tested positive for Covid-19. Rajinikanth was tested on December 22 for Covid but was negative. Since then, he had isolated himself and was being monitored closely.

Though he did not have any symptoms of Covid-19, his blood pressure showed sever fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he was admitted to the hospital.

Rajinikanth's health update: Nothing alarming in actor's medical reports

Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth, who was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad on Friday, is stable and there is nothing alarming in his medical reports, Apollo Hospital said on Sunday.

"Rajinikanth is stable now and there is nothing alarming in the medical reports that have come in. Doctors will evaluate him during Sunday afternoon before taking a decision regarding his discharge from the hospital.," Apollo Hospital added.

Megastar Rajinikanth was recently admitted to the Apollo hospital, Hyderabad on Friday, due to fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion. According to an official statement by the hospital on Sunday, there is "nothing alarming" in the "investigations reports" of the actor.

Earlier on Saturday, the hospital had also updated about the actor's health and said he is "progressing well" and his condition was "better control". Based on further evaluation the doctors will make a decision on Sunday whether or not to discharge the 70 0year old actor.

The 'Kabali' actor had been shooting for 'Annaatthe' in Hyderabad for the last few days. The shoot had to be halted after some crew members tested positive for COVID-19. While the superstar tested negative, a couple of other people from the set had tested positive, following which he isolated himself and was being monitored closely.

Malayalam actor Anil P Nedumangad drowns in Malankara dam

Idukki (Kerala): Malayalam actor Anil P Nedumangad died due to drowning at Malankara dam in Thodupuzha here on Friday evening. According to the police, the incident happened when he was bathing at the dam site. His body was fished out by rescue workers.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan extended his condolences on the death of Nedumangad and said that he was deeply saddened by the accidental death of the actor. "He was an actor who made his mark in the film industry through his notable roles. In a short period of time, he was able to bring to life, the characters who touched the audience deeply through his acting prowess. Anil's untimely demise is a great loss to the Malayalam film world. Sharing the grief of family and friends," he said in a condolence message.

The actor, who died at 48 years of age, had won critical acclaim for his roles in movies like Kamattipadam and Ayyappanum Koshyum.

Rajinikanth's health update: He is stable, being monitored closely at Hyderabad hospital

Superstar Rajinikanth, who was admitted to a corporate hospital here with severe fluctuations in blood pressure on Friday, will remain in hospital for overnight.

Apollo Hospital said Rajinikanth is being monitored closely and medications to control his blood pressure are being carefully titrated. The 70-year-old would undergo further investigations on Saturday. The actor's daughter is with him.

"He is stable and is resting. Family and treating doctors have requested all well-wishers to avoid visiting the hospital as he is not being allowed to meet any visitors," the hospital said.

The actor was shooting for Tamil film "Annaatthe" in Hyderabad for the last 10 days.

A couple of people on the film sets had tested positive for Covid-19. Rajinikanth was tested on December 22 for Covid but was negative. Since then, he isolated himself and was being monitored closely, the hospital said.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan called and spoke to the doctors and wished him a speedy recovery.

Superstar Rajinikanth has been admitted to Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on Friday morning, December 25, following severe fluctuations in blood pressure.

Apollo Hospital issued a statement, which read: Mr. Rajnikanth has been admitted in the hospital today in the morning. He was shooting for a movie in Hyderabad since the last 10 days. A couple of people on the sets tested positive for Covid-19. Mr. Rajnikanth was tested on December 22 for Covid-19 and he was negative. Since then, he isolated himself and was monitored closely. Though he did not have any symptoms of Covid-19, his Blood Pressure showed severe fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he has been admitted to the hospital. He will be investigated and monitored closely in the hospital till his blood pressure settles down before being discharged. Apart from fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion he does not have any other symptoms and is hemodynamically stable

Just a few days ago, the shooting of Rajinikanth's upcoming movie Annaatthe was temporarily halted as several of the crew members tested positive for COVID-19. At least eight members of the crew tested positive. The veteran star had been asked to go into self-isolation and take all the necessary precautions.

Sun Pictures, the production house behind Annaatthe, took to Twitter to confirm the news. The production house in a statement said, "During routine testing at #Annaathe shoot 4 crew members have tested positive for Covid19. Superstar @rajinikanth and other crew members have tested negative. To ensure utmost safety #Annaatthe shooting has been postponed."
